I am sooo onto this look right now.
I want to totally redo my whole house.
Paint all the walls white or light grey. Then layer on texture through chippy white and black gloss painted furniture, throw in some metallic sexiness, and why not some industrial?

I don't have the time or money to redo my house, so why not do a collection of it for the shop?

Thank goodness my friend Mimi of Blue Roof Cabin brought in this awesome chalkboard door and zebra chair last week.

I was so inspired!
So, I gathered stuff in my studio and got to painting this week!

And so here it is, my version of rustic glam for my store Poppy & Co.

Pretty good for throwing it together in a day with stuff I had!
Ah, I love merchandising the store. It makes me so happy.

k e e p i n g    i t     r e a l

This is a blog post I have wanted to post for years and I have been a bit of a chicken about it.

I am not sure why, maybe because in the social media world people either put out only the good things they want people to see. Well, that isn't exactly true. There are posts I see that are only sharing the bad things going on, complainers.

I try very hard not to be one of them.

The truth is we all have good and bad things that happen to us everyday.

I have had people tell me "Oh, you are perfect. Have the perfect family, live in a beautiful house, and have a job you love".

Yes to all three.  I also work six days a week and make less than minimum wage at the end of the month after my business expenses. We are struggling like everyone else, but we are happy and healthy. That should be what matters!

Darn that fear that runs through my head.

I am a mom that constantly battles the "Should I get a real job?" question. You know, one with benefits and retirement plan. I have had that job before and felt like I was missing picking up my kids from school everyday. But as a small business owner I can pick them up from school but not necessarily afford all the activities they want to do.

I guess I just wanted to share that behind the pretty furniture pictures there is a mom/wife/friend that is hoping the financial sacrifice is worth it. I got my doctors bill yesterday in the mail from my surgery and even after insurance I will owe thousands.

 Is it worth it?

In my heart I believe for TODAY, yes. Tomorrow maybe not-who knows but God?
Each day at a time, don't let fear dictate my plans. Today every sign coming at me is saying stay the course, have faith. Yes, faith. That word is popping up everywhere for me this week.

This might sound strange but I every time I surrender my struggles or even hopes for this business in prayer, a road just opens up for me. So I am following the road paved in faith.

m e t a l l i c    d r e s s e r s

I have a new thing. Well, it started about six month ago {that is still new right?}.

Last April I picked up this gorgeous dresser and as I unloaded it into the studio I thought "I am going to paint this silver. "

Whaaaat? I didn't know where the inspiration came from.

Looking back I guess it was kind of gutsy. It was not part of my normal fun color story, I hadn't done this technique before and I didn't really see any other painters {well painters in my little paint world} doing it.

I figured I would go slow, dry brush each layer and play with it as I went. Metallic paint is not forgiving. You must play by the painting 101 rules like-go in one direction, and don't put too much on your brush.

It is lovely when sanded back just a bit after multiple layers to create depth. And I like my metallic sealed in a high gloss.

At least one metallic piece is in my area of the store at any given time. But they go fast. Last month I sold three in one weekend.

This one is coming to the store with me tomorrow.

MCC stalks the MLS

It has been a while since I posted one of these!

I love all the warm wood in this house with the soft textiles and interesting furniture choices.

Eclectic-I like it!

The listing is here.

I have been hard at work keeping up with stocking the Tacoma store and planning/buying/painting for our new Seattle popup that we hope to have ready to go in November.

Busy times!
