Happy Wednesday my friends. I am on day one of kids home for summer vacation and so far so good.

I wanted to say a big thank you to Chris at http://justagirlblog.com she featured The Modern Cottage yesterday in her SAS wrap up. I was like dingdang-that is so exciting!

Today we are having family from out of town come to dinner so I tidied up the house and bought some flowers. Since it actually looks pretty clean around here today I thought I would snap some updated pictures of my living room and kitchen.

Ha, do you see my "menu" board? This is never updated just so you know, it is kind of a mess.

No dishes in the sink for once, and I swept the floor!

I love that at the end of the year the kids come home with tons of artwork. My old screen door is bursting with color!

Probably too many pillows on the couch.

I am keeping the big buffet for now. He might go in the shop sometime in the fall.

I adore you all, now go out and have a great day!

Ok, so I am sure most of you have heard of www.spoonflower.com but I had not! I found it through http://www.fleamarkettrixie.com/ whose blog I love and she is selling her fabric on Spoonflower!

Oh my, I love fabric, and it is sooo fun to find new exciting fabric~

So go to Spoonflower and check it out~I searched by color and look at just a few coordinating fabrics I found.

The one on the bottom is my favorite. I am thinking I need to have a grey and yellow room now!

f a v o r i t e   h o u s e    f r i d a y

I am taking fhf up a notch this week, we are going to be touring a home in the Madison Park area of Seattle.

Here is the description:
                                    $1,685,000

This Custom residence by Patricelli Construction is reminiscent of a Nantucket beach home with its shingled exterior, copper gutters & broad eaves sheltering the verandas from the elements. Once inside, you will find exceptional attention to detail & design; beautiful mill work; high ceilings; tall doors; circular floorplan; ebony stained oak floors; built-in cabinetry; sun filled rooms. Gourmet kitchen opens to family room & yard. Just minutes to beach, parks, cafe's, shops & restaurants.

I am not going to give commentary on each room this time. I think it is WAY more fun to hear what you think about it.
I will say that this is absolutely my dream home, dream location, and I would not change a thing about the decor.
But darn-it, I don't have 1.685 million, oh well.

s o m e t i m e s   i    g e t    i t    w r o n g

I bought this buffet off craigslist a few weeks ago. This guy is big, really big. I still can't believe I fit it in my SUV, but it did, and he sat in my garage for a bit until I could decide what to color paint him.

I was painting the cute dresser in Schoolhouse Slate at the same time as I was getting started on this piece so I thought, ok, I will paint him grey.
{like the dresser I painted below}

I was wrong. He looked like a whale or a big ship....not sure which. So I got started on other painting projects for clients and I came back to this guy yesterday.

I thought I would paint it my favorite color BM Covington Blue because well....I don't  know I thought maybe he needed some feminitity?  I love the way it turned out.

I painted the blue right over the grey. Distressed the edges so you can see a bit of the grey along with the natural wood. Then I waxed the piece in a clear wax. Oh, and I spray painted the original hardware black.

I think in the end I got it right.

 u g l y   e a r l y  80's   d r e s s e r
&
u g l y  70's {or 60's?}   s h e l f

I have two quick makeovers of furniture purchased for my daughter's room. Both sanded, primed with a spray priming bonder, three coats of BM Simply White in Aura, and then sealed with a poly.

But first I wanted to show you some cute pillows I bought for my daughter Camden's room {I got these at the Farm Chicks show}.
The two velvet green and one velvet aqua are from the flea market.
I know the colors are a little crazy in this room...but she is 8 and loves it.

I bought both the shelf and dresser a few weeks ago and I have been working on them a little at a time while finishing other pieces for the shop.

{before}

I had a dresser just like this growing up in the 80's, pretty ugly!

{after}

I painted the pulls with Rustoleum's Leafy Green.

Here is the ugly shelf before.

 And after, much better.
Gotta love white paint, it makes everything better.

{Spokane, WA September 4, 2011}

This will be a post with a lot of photos and not much in the way of commentary by me. It has been a day of too much fun and too much travel. But I promised you some photos from the Farm Chicks. It was a wonderful, wonderful day.

Here we go.

I will have another post of who I met, what I bought, and what I did with what I bought.
It was great fun.

f a v o r i t e   h o u s e   f r i d a y

I am all geared up for a get-a-way with my husband to visit Spokane this weekend for the Farm Chicks show. My budget is slim {pretty much $o} but I hope to take great pictures to share with you.

I thought I would share a cute home for sale that was sent to me by my dearest friend Michelle. This house is sooo darling and the price is right for the Seattle area, I am surprised after looking at the listing that it is not pending.

Anyway, here are some of the highlights.

So sweet on the outside. Darn my house needs help in the front yard. I wish it was as charming as this home.

I love love the dark walls with the pops of white, and the furniture is so classic.

Hello! I want a butlers pantry like this.

What a warm kitchen. I paint everything, which is not always a good thing. I like that they kept the wood. It really warms up the white.

Lovely bedroom and bath.
I want to go shopping and be friends with the current owner of this home.

Feel free to comment on what you love about the home. I have to go pack and get my list ready for my mom to watch the kids for the next two days.

 Off to Farm Chicks!
