{dresser makeovers}
As you know I love to paint a dresser. It is by far my favorite piece to makeover.
I picked up this matching set a few weeks ago and I knew immediately I was going to paint them all white. White? I know. I am always painting a dresser a funky color but I thought that the lines on these pieces were so beautiful that if I painted them any other color {except maybe grey} that it would actually take away from what makes the pieces special.
I decided to use General Finishes Milk Paint in Snow White.
This is by far my new favorite paint-I ADORE it!

My friend Devon uses this paint and was raving about so I had to try it. Now, it is hard to find. You either have to order in online or look for a retailer close to you that sells it. I ordered mine online {Amazon}.
The price is pretty good-around $23 for a quart. Compare that to chalk paint!
Also, you don't need to wax or poly it to finish. You can if you think you need to {maybe if you were painting a table top that gets heavy use} but I think it is really really durable. One reason it is so durable? The paint is an indoor/outdoor.
Head over to the manufacturer website {as linked above} to find out more information.
One downside of this paint? The colors. They are very colonial. If you like that look-great.
I like to have a variety. I am excited to play more with this paint. I want to see if I can use Snow White as a base color and add an acrylic to make a different color {maybe grey?}.
I have the prefect project to try this one-another makeover for next week!
Could you give me the dimensions to the lower white dresser? It is absolutely gorgeous!!! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYes-it is down at the store right now but I will be there Thursday so I can measure then.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love how they look now! I think the woodgrain was beautiful to begn with and was thinking maybe you'd leave it, but I have to confess-I think those big dark pieces are so much happier and cheerier in white! My husband laughs at me because I just about jump up and down over cute white furniture. Does it take many coats of hte milk paint?? These two pieces are just gorgeous now.
ReplyDeleteHi! I love how this looks...really beautiful. I have a bag of Snow White that I ordered about 7 months ago and I haven't used it - but now I will. I also ordered the Slate (which looks lovely) and the Buttermilk (I know - kind of colonial!). I have to give them a go...maybe mixing the Buttermilk with the Snow White will yield a lovely light cream!
ReplyDeleteI have used the Milk Paint with a good acrylic paint - a red...and it covered in one coat on an unfinished cabinet that I did for a client. I don't have pics - but I have the smaple that I did. I glazed it with black and edged it with black and it came out great. I don't think that the milk paint alone would have given me as solid a coverage.
I didn't topcoat the cabinet with anything because it was going to be used heavily. I think that some Ace Hardware stores sell a Clearcoat for Milk Paint. So - just in case - that's probably what I would use if there's to be heavy usage.
Miss Mustardseed is coming out with a Milk Paint line - so watch her site for when she starts selling it. Her colors look great!
