t w o   b l u e   d r e s s e r s
{and help me pick the knobs}


I am a crazy painting lady this week. Last week I was very sick and also just exhausted from Junk Salvation. I only finished one buffet. This week I am inspired to paint. So inspired I am tackling six dresser redo's at once. I have two finished, two almost finished, and two primed.


The two I finished are these blue beauties. 

The top one has already been sold. 

About the knobs on these two dressers {I keep getting asked about these knobs}. I bought these at a local craft store in my area, privately owned and they don't have a manufacturer on the label. These are meant to be used as "craft knobs". The backing on the knobs was very shallow and would not work on a typical drawer front, so I had to take the backing to Home Depot and have them help me find a screw back that would be long enough to use on a drawer front. I also had to get an extra special drill bit for my drill to cut a hole big enough for the new screw back. So, long story short...these knobs will be hard for you to find and duplicate I think....sorry!

The color  for both dressers is Duck Egg by Annie Sloan.  I did three coats of paint {no sanding or priming}, distressing, and  two coats of clear wax {also Annie Sloan}.



I am not sure if I will sell the bottom dresser yet, I might have a retail space mid-December so I am holding most of my inventory.

I am almost finished with this grey dresser I just can't decide between two knobs. The silver is very traditional but the white ceramic is fun and modern.





I am leaning toward the white ceramic.

    I like the white ceramic. I also love the large glass knobs you use.
    Hobby Lobby has some similar ones on line, but they are 7.99 each and I need 8 of them;(

    I am all for the silver ones personally - I guess I am more of a traditionalist.

    Wow, you've been busy, Alison! Isn't Duck Egg the most gorgeous color?? I just finished painting a pair of ugly, dark brown dining room chairs in DE and the transformation is amazing. Just have to wax them and I can finally use them. :) I'm visiting from Restored It Wednesday (link #54) and I'm so glad I happened upon your blog. Can't wait to go read more about your painting projects!

    P.S.--I love the DE blue dresser that isn't sold. I doubt we're near enough each other for me to buy it, but it would look so pretty next to my bed...LOL

    I like the white ceramic. They seem the best fit for the piece to me. Both are nice though!

    Good looking with colour and curve, that second furniture. Well, also that outdoor furniture will increase the look of green garden in rainy sessions. My old furniture 's black colour is almost gone.

    What kind of primer do you use before you paint a piece?

    Hi Rachel-for primer it really depends on each piece. If it is not wood, or a wood with a slick surface I use a bonding primer in white {either Kilz or Zinsser}. If it just needs primer to cover a wood with a heavy stain I use stain blocking primer in a spray {also Kilz or Zinnser}. If I am going to paint a piece in a dark color and want to distress and don't want the white primer to show {although there are ways to glaze after distressing to get rid of the white} I use a colored primer spray paint. The colored primer spray typically comes in white, grey, and black. Also, if I know the material I am painting only needs a bit of priming to stick, I will get a paint mixed with primer {like Behr premium, or BM aura}. So basically it depends on each piece of furniture/

    According to me all knobs are best. I like all knobs. All knobs are old but nice.
