g r e y   h a i r {s}

Yes, this is my second post of the day. But I have something very important to share with ya'll.

Oh, poo, I just found my first grey hair. Or should I say hairs!

I am sure they have been there all along lurking under my fake blond hair, but since I have been a little late on my root touch ups they reared their lovely heads.

{that is not a shadow on my head, those are my roots-and grey hairs}

I am over compensating with a large smile. Today was a non-shower, throw hair in pony and take care of the kids day.

{for the basement playroom}

I haven't had as much time as I thought I would this month to get this basement playroom finished, but in the last two days I have done quite a bit.

I had a successful thrifting morning. I bought this great frame for $5.99!
Yes, it was a lovely oil painting. It is really large {bigger than it looks in this picture}.

Since I am an avid thrifter I was very excited when I saw this frame. I almost never find frames this large.

I bought it not even knowing what I was going to do with it. But on the way home from the Goodwill I had an idea to turn it into art frame for the basement.

I brought the rug from my family room down to the basement and this will be my jumping off point for the colors in the room.
{if I can really even call this a room, it is still just a unfinished room in the basement I am painting and making it functional for the kids to play in}
There is a little bit of yellow in this rug, hard to see it but it is there.

I took the oil painting out, painted it yellow and added ribbons.
Next on the "to do list" for this project, paint all of my miss-matched furniture a creamy off white. I am trying not to buy any new furniture for this room redo, just work with the cast off furniture that was already being stored down there.

I think it is starting look pretty cute, I hope to show you more later this week!

It is another rainy day, so I was browsing the real estate listings for my favorite house friday today. I am in a funk today. I have been saying little prayers for happiness, gratitude, and guidance all day long in my head. Maybe it is just the rain. A good day of sun and a long run {or a glass or two of wine} might help.

Anyway, here is a cute house I found that came up for sale this week.

I could move right in to this house...it is Pottery Barn Perfect.

favorite house friday
{on a saturday}

Well it has been pretty rainy this week {too rainy to do my usual walk around the neighborhood and take pictures of my favorite houses} so I scouted out my favorite old house from the comfort of my office, searching the real estate listings.

Look at this beauty for sale in Seattle.
Oh, I love the color of this house, this is the color I want to paint our house. I love how the dark paint color with the white trim makes the architectural features pop.

What at great entry, I would paint it a soft grey-blue, add some sea-grass baskets, hang some home made {from my kids} artwork, striped rug, and change out the Queen Ann table for a  red farmhouse bench with fun pillows.

I wouldn't change a thing with this kitchen, LOVELY! Well, maybe ditch the plant on the corner of the island and have a soft color on the walls, but it is so bright and pretty. Maybe a stripped runner and a bowl of green apples.

If I owned this house my wine refrigerator would also be empty, because I would have drunk all of the wine.

This room needs a large overstuffed white slipcovered sofa, and chairs. An extra large coffee table {maybe in a natural wood} with a jute rug. I like that it doesn't have window treatments. I am not loving the stools at the island, three larger stools would fit the scale of the island better.

Another picture of this fantastic kitchen, beautiful.

It's only $ 1, 275,000! :)

q u i c k    e n t r y    t a b l e    r e d o

I don't have many projects for you this week. I decided to move a cabinet out of my bathroom and into my office. This meant I needed to move out of my office a cute {but too big for the room} farmhouse dresser, that I love and needed to find a new spot for. All day on Friday I spent playing musical chairs with tables and dressers in my house. They have all found their new spots. This week I will show my new arrangements and a couple new pieces that I have bought and transformed.

With all of my furniture arranged the way I want and nothing right now on my "wish list" for inside my home, I will focus the next month or so on selling some more pieces of furniture stored in my basement so I can fix up my front porch in time for spring.

I would love to have two cherry red adirondack chairs. Something similar to this:

Ok back to my marathon of moving furniture.....
I used to have a black dresser in my front entry.

This dresser is now in my upstairs bathroom and it looks great there, it has found a new home and has tons of storage for me.

This left me with a big hole in my entry....so down to the basement I went. I had this drop leaf table I bought with Molly on a thrifting day. I think it cost me $14, but it needed help.

 I used the paint left over from my bedroom and slapped on three coats on this cute table, after a good sanding.

I think it looks great in it's new home!
I love how the color in the toile pillow matches the table perfectly. I am considering putting a clear coat of glossy poly on top...we will see.

More mini-make overs coming this week.

m a s t e r    b e d r o o m    d o n e!

I did it, I finished my mini-bedroom freshening up.
Remember this is what it looked like {I lived with this color I hated for two and a half years, and all those holes I couldn't patch because I didn't have touch up paint!}

Now look....

My first attempt at painting this room was a bit of a miss, the color was too light. I did what most people do and chickened out on the bolder color. It didn't look right, there was not enough of a difference in color between the walls and the molding...so back to the paint store I went. This time I took my toile pillow and had them match the color. I love it now, very fresh.

Now my antique painted furniture and the white linens stands out more. You can see my new pillows that I made and previously posted, as well as a new throw I got at Target last week { $12 for clearance king size, and it is soft}. I don't even mind the 80's sconces with the new paint color.

I think it has a beach cottage feel with the white, soft blue-green, and sand colors.

I added sea-grass where I could {like this basket by my bed} to add texture.

Sea-grass baskets added for under farmhouse dresser.

I also replaced my blue dupioni silk drapes with white gauzy panels. It makes the room so much brighter. If anyone is looking for six curtain panels, you can have mine!

On another note....I have been painting all of my black antique furniture in my living room with the white porch paint I got and I am LOVING how it looks, so pretty. You would never know it was porch paint. It adds a lovely hint of gloss and I think it will be very durable.
Photo's of the painted furniture sometime next week.

Also, I just noticed that now that I re-painted my bedroom it matches my blog, he he!

l o o k i n g    f o r w a r d

I have been making some headway on master bedroom redo, but it has stalled a little while the kids have been home for winter break. The little ones are back to school today so I am hopeful I will get back on track.

Yesterday as a family we took a little hike, Saint took this great photo of us.

I love how the light is shinning down on us and we forge ahead, it makes me feel hopeful for this next year.
2010 was a very very tough year for my family, we said goodbye to too many loved ones that passed on.
I have an open heart to the possibility that this year will be full of joy.
